Want to protect your futons from wear and tear? Then, futon slipcovers are your best bet.  These are especially designed to keep dirt, stains, and dust away from your futons.  You can also use them to redecorate your rooms on the fly.  Simply, choose a different cover theme in order to create a new ambiance for your rooms.

To get the most out your slipcovers, you need to properly care for them.  Although they are cheaper than full size futon mattress covers, it would be really practical to take good care of slipcovers so you can get the most out of them.

So, here are some of the simplest ways to keep your futon slipcovers in top shape:

  1. Regular Cleaning
  2. Make it a point to wash your slipcovers after using them for two weeks.  To make your life easier, make sure that the covers are machine washable.  You should only use mild washing machine powder if your covers are made from linen or cotton.  It is also best to dry the slipcovers in low to medium heat only to avoid shrinkage.
If you have leather covers, always bring them to a professional cleaner.  Unless you have special machines to clean leathers, your leather cover might be damaged by regular machine or hand washing.

  3. Always keep the slipcovers away from direct sunlight
  4. This is particularly important for your leather covers.  The colors of your slipcovers will fade quickly if you allow them to stay under direct sunlight for extended periods.  On the other hand, leather covers will dry up and crack easily if you will always expose them to direct sunlight.

  5. Repair minor damages immediately
  6. When you see a run or threads coming out of the slipcovers, never pick them or pull them by hand.  You will only worsen the damage on your slipcovers.  What you should do is to get a small scissor or a sharp cutter blade and cut the protruding threads.

You should also fluff the mattresses as well as the slip covers once in a while to allow air to circulate through the fabric.  This will strengthen the fabric of the slipcovers so you can enjoy them for many years to come.  Fluffing the covers is also a good way to keep them free from dust.

These are the simplest ways to keep your futon slipcovers in top condition.  With good maintenance and proper care, your slip covers will always look brand new and elegant.
